pre-thanks

last weekend gps and i went to his friends place in new haven for a ‘pre-thanksgiving’ dinner that turned into a 48 hour food and wine and gab fest featuring lots of seafood and wine and desserts (that’s my cranberry peach pie up there) and art and crafts and kids running around. i hadn’t been back to CT in years, and admittedly i wasn’t really a fan of new haven b/c all i’d seen of it when i lived in CT was the yale area - not really a good representation of how academia mixes with lower income folks. but it was nice to see where the middle of the road folks lived in the ‘hood. gps’ friends lived in artist’s lofts and it was nice to see people who really lived with art everywhere - on the walls, in the bathrooms, under the couches… everywhere! it was also nice to discover the LYS literally right underneath the apartment! i could see the owner tinkering with machinery in the back of the shop from the windows upstairs! yarn, llc is a cozy and tiny little shop with a nice selection of high-end, well priced stuff. i bought two balls of autunno, two balls of regia’s kaffe fasset line and a skein of tofutsies for just under fifty dollars- gps’ and my mom will get socks and i’m thinking of making the autunno into a winter snood for yours truly. while we were supposed to come home early sunday, we ended up staying for dinner that night to hang out with some more of our host’s friends and have more seafood (blackened catfish). it wasn’t till gps and i were on the 9 o’clock train home that i realized i’d left my new yarn in new haven. i think they’ll mail me my goodies, but i’m all anxious about digging in and starting new socks for the boy and my mom…
